5 min Elephant

Am posting this pattern on to my blog because not everyone uses facebook, where it currently is available.

Easy Elephant

Skill Level: Easy

Materials: Less than 1 gram of each MC and C1

Finished Size:
Using 8 ply and Hook size 2.5mm the elephant should be approx 6cm wide including trunk

Pattern Stitches
You will need to know the following stitches- see directions at end.

Slst = slip stitch
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
MC = Main Color
= Contrast

Elephant Pattern

Foundation : 4ch turn


Row 1: 9dc in 4th ch from hook, 3ch turn
Row 2: 1dc in same st as 3ch,2dc in each of next 3 sts , 2hdc in each of next 3sts, 1sc in each of next 2 sts, 1sc in top of turning ch , 7ch turn
Trunk
Row 3: Slst in 2nd ch from hook, slst in each of next 2 ch,(1sc,1slst) in each of next 2 ch,slst in next ch, slst in top of last sc in previous row, 4ch do not turn


Legs
Row 4: {1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook,1dc in next ch}, slst in side of row 1,1sc in centre , 1 slst in other side of row 1, 4ch, repeat {to}, slst in top of 3rd ch in Row 2. Fasten off.


Ear Using C1
Row 1: 4ch, 4hdc in 4th ch from hook. Fasten off. Embroider eye and tail when attatching.



DIRECTIONS FOR STITCHES

slst – slip stitch
Insert the hook from the front, under the two top threads of the stitch next to the hook, yarn over and draw it through the stitch AND the loop on the hook in one movement.
Sc – Single crochet
insert the hook into next stitch,yarn over hook,draw it through the chain, there are now two loops on the hook. Yarn over hook draw through the two loops, one loop will remain on the hook.
One single crochet (sc) now completed.
Hdc – Half double crochet
Yarn over hook, insert hook into next stitch,yarn over, and draw loop through stitch. There are now three loops on the hook, yarn over , and draw it through all three loops, one loop will remain on the hook. One half double crochet (1hdc) completed
Dc – Double Crochet
Yarn over hook, insert hook in to next stitch, yarn over,and draw loop through stitch. There are now three loops on the hook, yarn over , and draw it through two loops, two loop will remain on the hook, yarn over hook . Draw through remain 2 loops,one loop left on hook.
One double crochet (1dc) completed .
